Why We Need to Protect Children in Del Sur, CA with a Pool Fence
Del Sur was designed around active family living. Throughout the community, residents enjoy neighborhood parks, recreation centers, walking paths, community pools, and backyard gathering spaces. Many homes include private swimming pools that become a focal point for entertaining and family activities throughout the year.
California consistently ranks among the states with the highest number of residential swimming pools in the nation. Combined with the region’s warm climate, pools often remain accessible during much of the year rather than being limited to a short summer season.
Many pool accidents happen during ordinary moments. A parent is helping another child. Someone is bringing groceries inside. A guest leaves a gate open. A child follows a pet into the backyard. The situations are often routine, which is why creating multiple layers of protection is so important.
Why install a mesh pool fence in Del Sur, CA? Here’s why… There are 1,750 residents, and 1,343,000 residential swimming pools in California. Having a pool fence like Life Saver Pool Fence actually helps save lives.
Del Sur families invest significant time and resources into creating beautiful outdoor spaces. A pool safety fence in Del Sur, CA helps add another layer of protection while preserving the enjoyment and appearance of the backyard.
Drowning Statistics Every Parent in Del Sur Should Know
Understanding the realities of water-related accidents helps families make informed pool safety decisions.
- Every year in the United States, an estimated 4,000 people die from drowning. That is an average of 11 drowning deaths per day.
- Drowning is almost 50% more likely than a motor vehicle accident to be the cause of the death of a child aged 1-4.
- A young child can drown easily in as little as 1-2 inches of water within seconds.
- Most drownings happen in home swimming pools among children ages 1–4.
- Over 40% of drownings among children 5-14 occur in natural water, and over 35% occur in swimming pools.
- 70% of toddler drownings happen when the child isn’t expected to be in the water (non-swim time).
While these statistics can be difficult to read, they also highlight why proactive pool safety measures are so important.
Residential Pool Barrier Requirements in Del Sur, CA
In Del Sur, CA, you are required to follow the local safety codes/ordinances of your specific town/city or county. We recommend that every private and residential pool be fully enclosed in a pool safety fence (with a self-closing, self-latching pool gate) for the safety of all children. An unfenced pool is clearly a liability. We advocate putting safety first at all times to prevent unauthorized access to the pool except through controlled entrances. Fencing requirements vary by area in Southern California. There are often minimum height requirements, spacing requirements, and gate requirements, for example. Your local building department can share up-to-date requirements or you can contact us directly to discuss.
Note: It’s always best to check with your local Building Department or local permitting office for the most up-to-date and specific requirements. Building codes are also updated periodically. Ensure you are referencing the most current version. Information on this site is for general informational purposes only.
The 7 Layers of Protection
Pool safety should never rely on a single solution. The strongest approach combines multiple protective measures that work together.
- Install pool alarms and door locks on any doors leading to the backyard.
- Have a mesh safety fence installed that surrounds your entire pool.
- Provide your children with early infant swim instruction.
- Supervise children at all times and always have a designated water watcher on “duty”.
- Make the pool the first place you check if children are missing.
- Require that all caretakers know how to perform CPR.
- Educate family members, caretakers, and babysitters on pool safety.
When families consistently implement multiple layers of protection, they create a stronger overall pool safety strategy.
Life Saver vs. a ‘Fence Around a Pool’
Many homeowners assume that any backyard fence automatically contributes to pool safety. In reality, most fences were designed for entirely different purposes.
Traditional backyard fences are commonly installed for privacy, aesthetics, security, or property boundaries. They typically surround the entire yard rather than creating a dedicated barrier around the pool itself.
A Life Saver Pool Fence serves a different purpose. Instead of defining property lines, it focuses specifically on separating the pool area from the rest of the yard. This creates an additional barrier between young children and the water.
Property fences may still allow direct access to the pool area once someone enters the backyard. A dedicated pool barrier focuses specifically on controlling access to the swimming pool.
For families evaluating pool safety options, understanding the difference between a general backyard fence and a pool-specific barrier is an important part of the decision-making process.

Mesh Pet Fence – We Love Our Pets, So Let’s Protect Them
Pool safety is not only a concern for children. Pets can also face risks around swimming pools, particularly when they are unsupervised.
Many homeowners use mesh fencing to help create designated outdoor spaces for dogs and other pets. The fencing can help separate portions of the yard, restrict access to the pool area, and provide additional boundaries during gatherings or outdoor events.
Families with multiple pets often appreciate having the flexibility to create separate areas within the backyard. The removable design allows sections to be adjusted when needed while maintaining protection around the pool.
Creating safer outdoor spaces for pets is another reason many homeowners choose mesh fencing solutions.
Pool Gates in Del Sur, CA
A pool fence system is only as effective as its entry points. That is why properly designed gates play such an important role in overall pool safety.
Our pool gates feature self-closing and self-latching mechanisms designed to close automatically after use. Gates can also be locked with a key when additional control is desired.
Homeowners can choose between arched and flat-top gate styles depending on the appearance of their backyard. Larger pool layouts often benefit from multiple access points that allow convenient movement while maintaining controlled entry to the pool area.
The gates are designed to be climb-resistant and integrate seamlessly with the overall fencing system.
